Yahoo Server Hangup Causes Online Gamblers Confusion

Online gamblers both new and seasoned were confused on Thursday afternoon when the Yahoo search engine was down for about an hour. The search engine is frequently used for players to find the top online casinos from around the world.

"For a brief period this afternoon, Yahoo.com was inaccessible to some users," wrote Yahoo Spokeswoman Kryssa Gunthrum, in response to a query from eWeek. "We have identified the issue and are working to correct it immediately. We know that this may have caused some inconvenience and we apologize to our users who might have been affected."

Google and Yahoo are the two biggest search engines in the world and they are both used extensively for finding information in a timely manner. Online gamblers looking for new casinos particularly use the search engine with confidence they will find what they need.

"When I first started playing online poker I used Google's search engine to find out all about the different online poker sites that were available to me," said Jack Benson. "Now that I know all of the sites, I don't use the tool anymore, but at the beginning it was definitely helpful."

In the US, online gambling is still a taboo subject for many lawmakers. Although the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was created in 2006, the law did nothing to criminalize online gambling for players. Furthermore, the UIGEA does not define what forms of online gambling are legal and which are not.

Online sports betting is the one form of Internet gambling that is universally accepted as illegal. Online lotteries have become an up and coming trend, and they have caused US lawmakers to look into the UIGEA and its worth. This year there has been a push to eliminate the UIGEA and set up a regulated Internet gambling system in the country, but the proposal has not yet made it to the House floor for a vote.
