Former anti-gambling State South Carolina move to Casinos

South Carolina is one of the southern States that has discouraged for a long time to gamble. Legislators for years have averted the idea more regulated gambling to the State, but if the economy continues to falter, this attitude is changing.

Cancun had a ban on casino gambling, but this week the town councillors voted to overturn the ban. that would make gambling right, and the next step casino boats of the Cooper River.

"There are some people that gambling can have a negative effect on like alcohol has a negative effect on, smoking has a negative effect on," said Mayor Keith Summey. "But at the end of the day that is their choice."

That certainly wasn't the overwhelming opinion at a hearing Wednesday at the North Charleston City Hall. Many residents of the South Carolina showed up to express their displeasure with the idea of lifting the gambling ban. However, The Council voted 7-4 in favor of lifting the ban.

The debate that went on this week in South Carolina is one that is similar to debates take place anywhere in the country. Conservative anti-gambling groups claim that casinos are not an acceptable way to help of budgetary constraints. they also claim that the social ills of the gambling outweigh the positive.

On the other hand, gambling advocates believe that the jobs that were created by the casinos and the proceeds of the tax would go a long way in establishing their local economies. studies have been done on both sides of the issue, and legislators have documented the studies that their positions in many countries.
